About the Organization

by Erica Brokaw

The Boys & Girls Club of South Central Texas began as the Willie Mae Mitchell Community Opportunity Center on March 16, 1994.  It was renamed after acceptance into official membership of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America on Nov. 21, 2001.

Today, the private, non-profit organization is located in San Marcos, Texas and sponsors 11 club sites serving the youth of Hays, Caldwell, Guadalupe and Comal counties.  The San Marcos Unit also operates Texas Preparatory School, making them one of two clubs in the entire U.S. to sponsor a charter school.

The school receives top honors every year and houses a Sylvan Learning Center offering professional tutoring for the students.  The club also provides children with recreational and developmental life skills through various classes after school programs.

Volunteer and membership applications are available to everyone in the community.  Monetary donations are always accepted and greatly appreciated but the donation of time is highly encouraged.
